MetaTrader 4 (MT4) is a forex trading platform released in 2005 by MetaQuotes. It remains the dominant retail trading platform thanks to a huge library of free indicators and Expert Advisors, broad broker support, and a familiar interface.
MT4 is forex/CFD-focused, with simpler order types than its successor (MT5) and a netting-incompatible hedge accounting model. Despite being officially superseded, it is still the platform most retail traders learn on.
