Free Margin

Free Margin = Equity − Used Margin. It represents how much room the account has left to either open new positions or absorb adverse moves on existing ones. When free margin reaches zero, the account hits margin call and no new positions can be opened. Many traders monitor margin level (equity ÷ used margin × 100%) instead, since it normalizes for account size.
